October 2018 Best Bets

During the month of October usually all of the species of fish are available in the northwest gulf in that the travelling fish are just feeding up to get ready to go south to warmer water. October is always the best month of the year to catch that big one that you have been fishing for throughout the summer. Local fish start feeding up to survive the colder winter months, the speckled trout and redfish in the bay will be moving into the deeper waters and you can find them more gathered in bunches than during the hot summer months.

Off shore fishing in October becomes great because the fish are getting prepared for winter time when there will not be as many bait fish for them to feed on. It will be real easy to catch that big one both inshore and offshore during this month. The king maceral and spanish maceral have been feeding all summer and you will find the larger fish during this month.

In the bay and near shore the speckled trout will be feeding heavily to also get ready for winter time when there will not be as much for them to feed on. Also, now is the time to catch those flounder in the near shore reefs while they are preparing to move to deeper water. It is also the time to catch those large red fish and speckled trout in the near shore deeper waters because they are also feeding up for the wintertime.

Don’t forget to file a float plan, and let somebody know when you are going to return.

Be safe. Good fishing and good luck.
