July 2018 Best Bets

06/12/18
The month of June came on more active and better than I even expected. The red snapper were not only plentiful, but very large as well, even the grouper moved in closer to shore than expected. So all in all, June has been one of the better fishing months in several years. I fully expect July to continue to be productive just as June has been. We can bring home Red Snapper until midnight July 21st, hopefully the government will let us bring some home later on in September and October.

Inshore fishing has not only been very productive, but the weather has cooperated very much. All of the recreational fisherman have had a ball, with the exception of maybe 3 days when the wind was blowing just a little more than you wanted to fish in. It looks like July is going to be equally as good, or better than July - and I am not sure how it can be better in that June has been extremely good. The red snapper seem to just continue to be present in large numbers and a few red grouper and gag grouper are showing up very well. I know it will probably be a little hotter and the water temperature will be a little warmer in July but I don’t think it will be enough to slow the fish down. If we can continue with this good weather and good fishing right on into August it would be a real great summer and from what I am experiencing now, I would expect September and October to be banner fishing months. The king mackerel and speckled trout have come in a little bit late but they are plentiful and they are large so the fisherman should not have any problem catching kings or Spanish. It has been a great spring and early summer, let’s hope it will continue.

Don’t forget to file a float plan, and let somebody know when you are going to return.

Be safe. Good fishing and good luck.
