The weather should be cooling this month and the water will also be getting a lower temperature which means the fish should be biting a lot better. Maybe we will not have any tropical storms during October in the gulf and that will really help the fishing. The cobia are turning up regular all the way from too small to keep to some pretty good size fish. We are finding cobia in the deeper waters offshore as well as in the shallow near the beaches. Offshore there are some really nice gags bringing brought to the dock as well as some good size vermillion snapper. Almost every trip is producing some real nice black snapper (mangrove).
Inshore fishing has been pretty slow due to the heat and water temperature however, the spanish mackerel are showing up in good numbers as well as the speckled trout and redfish in the deeper waters along the beach and in the bay. The pompano were still here last week and I suppose they will stay even longer. The flounder moved out to a little bit deeper water particular on the car body reef and on the near shore artificial reefs. A small live bait will surely go a long way in catching a large flounder. I am looking forward to a real good October.
Don’t forget to file a float plan, and let somebody know when you are going to return.
