Spring is here and the fish have been waiting a long time to find something to eat. The fish are hungry and waiting on your bait. The Spanish mackeral have been more numerous this year than I have seen in the last four years. The first king was caught off of Mexico Beach on April 14th and it was a nice one. The sheephead are still plentiful around ships channel buoys and on the lumber shipwreck.
The red grouper and scamp and other deep water grouper are really biting good offshore. The vermillion snapper, white snapper and black snapper are plentiful on the hard bottom offshore. While you’re fishing for those deep water fish, be sure you have some flat lines out for those wahoo and mahi mahi. I just received the word from the NMFS that we will have 45 days to bring home red snapper in Federal waters beginning June 1st. This notice is supposed official and I hope so. We will know for sure by the time this is printed.
Don’t forget to file a float plan, and let somebody know when you are going to return.
