January 2013 Best Bets

Since there’s not going to be a whole lot of offshore fishing in January due to the offshore weather conditions that are normal but if you can find a pretty day and the seas are halfway calm you can catch a lot of red snapper and grouper but as you know you can’t bring them home, just have fun.

Inshore fishing and bay fishing should be exceptional during this month. The red fish are showing real good and some of them are quite large. The speckled trout is still biting real well in the deeper water and especially in the intercostal canal. The whiting are coming on strong along the beach and will probably be real good fishing right on until March. The sheep head and pompano are showing up around the markers and along the beach around the end of St. Joe Peninsula. Maybe some good weather will start coming on early this year and we can catch some fish that the government will let us bring home and put in the frying pan.

Don’t forget to file a float plan, and let somebody know when you are going to return.

Be safe. Good fishing and good luck.
