October is normally the best fishing month of the year. All of the larger fish generally choose October to do their feeding for the fall and most of the time the weather is also the best in October. We will keep our fishing poles crossed and hope this October is going to be the best of all.
The offshore fishing for grouper is coming on real strong and the red grouper in particular are showing up in good sizes and plenty of them. Also, a few more gag grouper are beginning to come to the dock then we had expected. I am still looking for a good month on the mahi mahi and wahoo. We also have found in the deeper offshore water some of the largest king mackerel that I have seen in several years. Not to mention those big old amberjack that still seem to be plentiful. The larger your live bait the larger that amberjack is going to be at the end of your line.
Now that the rain seem to have slacked off a little bit the inshore fishing is picking up and I expect October to be better than it has been in the last several months. The speckled trout and flounder in particular seem to be coming on a little stronger and I believe they will get better as October rolls around. The pompano are still here and should be pretty good for a little while longer as well as the triple tail are really showing up big time. I really expect October to be the best month for catching those larger fish than we have had all year long.
Don’t forget to file a float plan, and let somebody know when you are going to return.
