Happy New Year and may January be a lot better for fishing offshore than November or December have been. I guess every ten years we have to have one of these years that the wind blows so hard until it is awful hard to get more than 2 to 3 miles from the beach to go deep water fishing. That means that inshore, bay, and ICW fishing for those speckled trout and redfish is the main fish that we need to put on our dish for January. The speckled trout, redfish, sheepshead, and pompano are doing good and if you're planning a fishing trip in the next two months, I would put a priority on inshore fishing. There just has not been enough offshore fishing to pass on any information that would help you to catch a good mess of grouper or snapper, especially since they will not let us bring home any gag grouper or red snapper. I hope that the weather will be much kinder to all of us fishermen this spring than it has been this past fall and winter.
Don’t forget to file a float plan, and let somebody know when you are going to return.
